If Anthony hadn't loved Cleopatra in that last second, maybe he would have survived and he would have won the war within him, but he had loved her more than ever exactly in that second that had driven him toward awareness. Therefore, he fell to death, whereupon Cleopatra should live. She should have been his widow to suffer the consequences and to understand what real love means, because her affair of the heart was too pathetic to have control over the destiny of history. Poem by Marieta Maglas Variant If Anthony had not felt that profound love for Cleopatra in his final moment, perhaps he could have survived and triumphed over his internal battle. Yet, in that fleeting instant, his love for her surged stronger than ever, awakening a deep awareness within him; propelling him toward a painful clarity. As a result, he succumbed to death, leaving Cleopatra to carry on. She was meant to bear the weight of his loss, to grapple with the repercussions, and to truly comprehend the essence of real love. Her romantic entanglement, though intense, lacked the power to shape the course of history.
