There was a lady in my life for years Who was so very dear to me One day I had to say good-bye She was on her death bed, you see I sat beside her bed for hours As she was in and out of sleep It was so hard because I knew She was someone I couldn’t keep My life would be so empty Yes, I knew this to be true Once she had left and gone to God If you knew her, you’d feel it too For she was a true lady of God Her life had belonged to Him She’d thought about it carefully It was not done on a whim But she was elderly now, you see She became so thin and frail God was waiting and she knew it For heaven would now prevail She awakened and I kissed her She said, “I’m dying now, you know.” I told her “Yes I know you are And I’m going to miss you so.” I finally had to walk away And on with my life I’d roam But I heard her say very softly, “I will see you, dear, at home! ”
