Learning To Type

Did you ever take a typing class? Well it takes a little time You start out learning home keys You even learn to rhyme At first you might as well have Thumbs instead of fingers It feels so foreign to you Each finger wants to linger Yes, ‘home keys' my teacher said You must embrace each one She pounded rules into our heads And it surely wasn't fun Don't look down, she often said If you look I'll tell you what I'll put tape upon your keys I wanted to say, "Oh, hush up! " But didn't - oh no not back then I'd never sass her back But she stuck to her rules Never giving her students slack Fingernails - well we couldn't have Them any long than our finger This too she said would slow us down And again our fingers would linger But I am so glad that my teacher Didn't let our fingers roam We learned to type the ‘proper way' Because of her I can type this poem!
