Little Catholic Girl

I fancied myself a little Catholic girl
As I pressed my nose to the fence
I could see myself in a long black dress
As my religious life commenced
I saw myself with bible in hand
My head bowed so peacefully
My little mouth moved in prayer
What a different world it was for me
But you see, I wasn’t Catholic
I was Methodist like my dad
The nuns at the church nearby
Provided all the Catholic knowledge I had
Isn’t it funny how little kids
Live in a world all their own?
Some small thing gets into their mind
And it sets off such a different tone
I smile today when I realize
Little minds are sent in a whirl
Just like my mind was so long ago
As I became a little Catholic girl!
