My Mom Taught Me

My mom was quite the teacher When I was growing up She was stern about how to do things Like hang clothes on the line. There was a certain way of doing it And there were no exceptions. Everything had to go together just right... Towels with the washcloths beside them, Shirts hung by the bottom Pants from the waistline And then there was washing dishes! First came the glasses, then the plates Afterward was the silverware. Last of all the pots and pans. Yes, Mom was particular. And then there was the ironing. On a shirt I had to start with the collar Then the cuffs and sleeves Then the body of the shirt And last of all, the shoulders. Looking back I don’t think I ever Resented these lessons I was being taught to be a housewife Plain and simple! That’s what women did then They stayed home, kept the house And raised the children. Life was simpler then Clear cut and simple. This is what we did. I don’t know if life was better then Or just simpler. I would imagine A little bit of both. Thanks Mom!
