I Hear The Willing And The Weary

I hear the willing and the weary. Fighting for a nickel-and-dime Saying who will pay my wages today Who can I kill for you? Who can I murder in their crib? To make tomorrow a safer place for you How can I keep you from despair? When I'm sleeping in the street in the dirt Praying -someone will pray for me and not you. How can I keep you from where you're going too? Don't you know there's nothing wrong with being a villain? If it helps you to survive this circus dance If it helps you walk this tightrope? Who can frown upon you? When you've lived this long Without the love of many or just a few Who can blame you for being heartless and strong? Surviving where only animals belong I hear the willing and the weary. Are still fighting for a shilling and a farthing. Lord, we all know the world isn't fair. And their wings have been trimmed and cut. To keep them from making something honest and good Something worthy of living for with pride. I hear the willing and the weary. They've now got broken backs and diseases. They've got troubles no one cares to resolve. No one cares to fix or heal. As long as they can barter for their soul And die homeless without a home. Don't you know there's nothing wrong with being a villain? If it helps you to survive this circus dance It helps you to walk this tightrope. Who can frown upon you? When you've lived this long Without the love of many or just a few Who can blame you for being heartless and strong? Surviving where only animals belong.
