Mikhail Alekseyevich Kuzmin, born October 18, 1872, was a gay Russian poet, musician, novelist, and prominent figure during the Silver Age of Russian poetry. His first novel, Krylya [Wings] (Vesy, 1906) was one of the first published works in Russian literature to include overt homosexuality. His poetry collections include Forel’ Razbivaet Led. Stikhi [The Trout Breaks the Ice] (St. Petersburg Pisatelei, 1929); Paraboly [Parabolas] (1923); Nezdeshniye vechera [Otherworldly Evenings] (1921). Kuzmin died on March 1, 1963, in the Soviet Union.
