Time Could Not Destroy My Childhood

Innocence played
in my childhood yard.
The sun sent then his
ray to light my room.
I used to kiss my
life with the warmth
of Nature!
Jingle bell rang,
our heart sang.
The Banyan tree
who is the witness
of our round, round game,
knows everything.
The sky would come down...
Jubilantly, we touched
the clouds, white, grey
and tried balancing on
our toes to pick up
the cotton balls
right from the blue!
Closing my fatigued eyes,
still I see, the vast meadows
ahead......
Me and my friends were
running after herd of sheep.
Jim, my pal, showed the bullock-cart!
Ah! Another source of innocent joy.
Run, run, run...
He and Timothy managed to ride.
The cart-driver made mouth and
we were laughing and finally
sat beside Jim and Tim.
The cart was passing a brooklet.
We followed Tim's shout..
The silver colored tiny fishes
were swimming over the shining
pebbles of the transparent water.
No more, we stayed and
left the cart.
We were then after the
clever fishes!
Darkness dropped its curtain
after the sundown.
The forests, the tea-gardens,
the flickering lights
of the kurseong hill,
the rivers with all their mystery,
let us chose our homeward path!
The movements of fire-flies
in the green darkness would remember
the eerie-stories of the past.
Once, a man hanged him there.....
Grand-pa, father, mom might give
us a good beating,
someone would tell.
But, nothing could block
our next voyage.

Million cusec water flowed away
thru the rivers of my childhood days....
Still now, when I get up
in the morning,
my innocent days pop up,
on the canvas of an evergreen
childhood.
Time could not destroy it! ! !
