Groundhog's Prediction Was Correct: Winter Is Still Here

One week already passed since the groundhog day Groundhog's prediction was correct: winter is still here. On the groundhog day, gusty wind was cold to the bones People walked in the hurry with their lowered heads The sky was filled with white sunlight and sparse clouds Several flocks of geese flew very fast above my head. I turned my head back and forth very quickly to watch As I held my wife's hand for a fast walk to escape gusty wind. We went shopping at a Vietnamese grocery store that morning We bought cod fish, vegetable, manioc roots We bought star apples and a durian One bag of white rice, one case of high quality fish sauce "Bánh bao", Vietnamese pork roll, a frozen duck We also bought square sweet rice cakes and pickled leeks for Tet celebration. After shopping, we ate at Phở La Vie, a Vietnamese restaurant This restaurant just opened for business and it's filled with customers. I enjoyed a glass of iced milk coffee My wife, a glass of delicious mango smoothie. We both ordered our favorite beef "Pho" I ordered a combination bowl, my wife, a rare beef and tender tendon. I added cinnamon mint, a squeeze of lime juice And blanched mung bean sprouts, for my complete satisfaction. After eating, we drove home quickly And awaited for several days of snow next week. Today, it's exactly one week since the groundhog day Night temperature had dropped to ten to twenty. From behind my house window I watch the sky It's now eight thirty in the morning but there is no sunshine. White snow still sits on big boughs of my mulberry tree Similar white snow sits on top of my yard stone wall. Snow on house roofs is as white as snow on my yard There is no sunshine today and more snow to come next week. Ngày groundhog gió buốt xương Người đi vội vã, co ro cúi đầu. Bầu trời nắng trắng mây thưa Mấy đàn ngỗng xám bay nhanh trên đầu. Vội vàng nhìn trước nhìn sau Tay tôi dắt vợ tránh mau gió lùa. Sáng này đi chợ Việt nam Chúng tôi mua cá, mua rau, khoai mì Mua thêm vú sữa, sầu riêng Một bao gạo trắng, một thùng mắm ngon Bánh bao, chả lụa, vịt đông Bánh chưng, củ kiệu, chờ mừng tết ta. Chợ xong, ăn phở La Vie Tiệm này mới mở, bữa trưa đông người. Cà phê sữa đá cho tôi Vợ tôi sinh tố xoài ngon thỏa lòng Chúng tôi cùng thích phở bò Tôi bò thập cẩm, vợ bò tái gân. Cộng thêm húng quế, chanh xanh Thêm vào gía trộn, càng tăng đậm đà. Ăn xong vội vã về nhà Rồi tuần lễ tiếp mấy lần tuyết rơi. Hôm nay tuần nữa qua rồi Đêm thì vẫn lạnh khoảng mười, hai mươi. Từ sau cửa sổ nhìn trời Bây giờ tám rưỡi vẫn không nắng trời. Cành cây đại thụ tuyết ngồi Bên nhà tường đá tuyết ngồi trắng phau. Mái nhà trắng tuyết như sân Hôm nay không nắng, tuần sau tuyết về.
