Twenty Years

Youth sitting in chairs
Not knowing what twenty years will bring
Looking about seeing and hearing their cheerful ways
I smile and recall the day I once sat in the same chair
Fleeting moments of a time long gone…
I will never understand why they call them laugh lines or crows feet
But I know they are appearing as I sit with my table of graceful aging ladies
Nearing the red hat club and home before the three AM members
I sip upon my glass of merlot and think this used to be whiskey on ice
Watching youthful smooth moves, as he asks her to dance
And I chill out on an anti inflammatory and a chilled red wine
This stage of life still makes me smile
When I can know in twenty years they might be here too
