I Wanted To Come For A Visit

I wanted to come for a visit, one day But you don't live where you said you did, And you never act, like you seem to think; You don't do the things you talk about doing. I'm afraid if I did manage to find you, I'd find something strange; unwieldy, Saddled with the weight of many ideals, but not gravity. An appearance of physical things, but not reality. Children like to indulge in make believe But at the end of the day, adults gently remind That it's time to put the playthings away- You'd better start praying For something real, to replace the futile imaginings For something lasting, to replace the nonsubstantive. For one day soon we become old, and the cemetery lays claim To all the things we loved, And our ideals won't be enough then to warm us, ever again.
