The Approach Of Night

the approach of night:
new revolutions begin,
variations on a horizon.
the wife of the sun shows her lucid face
someone else is hollowing out stars
with floodlights from a car lot.
sometimes a voice bends uneasily in the breeze,
as children count sheep under woolly blankets
while tomorrow easily slips unseen
and waits behind a schoolboy's dream.
