Peek-A-Boo

The sultry sound of piano
trickles from a window
but the trees stand naked
in the early snow.
No need for a drummer
in spring and summer
sacred canticles arise
birds chirp the musicals.
Then amid ragged rhymes
a bell chimes and a shih-tzu
barks a prose poem at a squirrel
playing peek-a-boo.
