The Middle Class

We know our neighbors by their first name And they know us the same, We wave at them whenever we are outside And stories with them we will sometimes confide. We work 40 plus hours a week A long weekend we always desperately seek, We also will work an extra shift So, we can vacation or buy that special gift. We spend as much time with our family as we can That is always our daily plan, We know our neighbor's children on the street With a smile and wave each other we always greet. We all usually vacation at the very same place We all find out that we have the same taste, And if we see our neighbors at the local store We chat and talk with them that much more. We always pay our taxes on time If we didn't we feel as if we had committed a crime, And we donate to the Salvation Army and to Good Will Because, others we want to help and heal. In our neighborhood we drive slowly and always alert Because, no child or pet do we want to hit or hurt, If a neighbor passes away we always give our sympathy Along with food and our empathy. In the wintertime we shovel the street and driveway Because, for us all it's another work day, And in the summertime we weekly mow our grass Because, we are the middle class. Randy L. McClave
