IF THERE WERE ONLY A POEM
If there were only a poem
That could redeem me
That could get me out of this
That could make me feel alright again
If there were only a poem
That could take this problematic life
And make it less problematic
But poems do not solve life problems
Especially not for those
Who escape those problems
Instead of courageously facing them
Poems do not rescue the poltroons
From their hiding away
And this poem too
Will not rescue me today.
