The Thirst

I miss the fullness of joy. I knew it once… Maybe twice, if one can count childhood, but childhood memories are so impossibly capricious. The taste of genuine joy, in adulthood, so rare, is so savory within the palate of the heart, that if lost, one can never forget it, and will lifelong thirst for its return. It takes so little to grow and sustain such pure joy, the kind craved by a human heart, rather like the necessary amount of water to grow and keep alive the great saguaro cactus in the extreme arid desert. It can bloom beautifully beyond compare, grow strong, tall and amazing, living on for 100 or more years, with what may seem a very small, yet regular, amount of water- And, there's the rub, it takes the holy water of love to grow joy. Lose the water, and the joy, shall wither and die … I am so thirsty …
