.
uneasy murder of crows
rising together against the sky
black wings shimmering in the heat
wheeling high then swooping low
until there was a row of crows
perched on the wing of the school
devoted to Poe and poetry
and across the street the redbone hound whined
and hobbled slowly and arthritically up the porch steps
and lay himself carefully down
by the vacant rocking chair.
