Thomas Blacklock was born in 1721 in Dumfriesshire, Scotland. He was appointed minister of Kirkcudbright, but, because the parishioners rejected the idea of a blind minister, he instead became a tutor in Edinburgh. Blacklock later received a doctor of divinity degree from Marischal College in 1767. He died in Edinburgh in 1791.
