(1) The Ceaseless Waves Of Sorrow

The body of a fourteen year old girl
is discovered with a faithful dog
remaining mournfully beside her.
Cause of death undisclosed and uncertain,
no indication of sexual assault.
The promise of a life
is extinguished like a candle
by a passing breeze
through an open window.
If there is no God
to shed a tear for our lonely plight,
how will we find the meaning
to help us endure our nights?
