Brief And Fleeting

we exhibit genuine affection at the close of summer,
but can we make our way through the autumn leaves
and through all the twisting rain-swept streets?
I've learned to live without love,
for most, it is more extreme
than breathing under water,
but it's an attainable skill.
Any day, could be an entrance to the grave,
an exit from existence;
one has to cherish a current embrace
because it could always be the last.
A friend is required in difficult times,
a wife mends many wounds,
the spiritual more than the practical.
A doctor explains an illness
but healing is often elusive;
If one perishes in old age or in youth,
while vision is bright or is dim,
the time remains brief and fleeting.
