Unsympathetic Mirrors

Swirling winds
and rushing waves
across the angry sea
encompass me,
I must be a victim
of a tyrannical deity.
These are painful nights
void of stars,
we endure wounds
from poison arrows
that pierce the heart,
we're tragically torn apart
from each other
and our best intentions.
I must have failed to mention
I don't want to exist
in the darkness that conceals your eyes,
I don't want to breathe in the rain
of your prolonged absence.
I made a scarf out of your skirt
and a tourniquet, too,
but my lifeblood still seeped through
with no more value
than a ketchup puddle
from a broken bottle
on a grocery floor.
There is nothing more tragic
than daily survival when
there is nothing left to adore;
purposeless years remain
to sigh in unsympathetic mirrors
that only find relief
as you slowly walk away.
