You Have Arrived

We gathered wild flowers in the sun
growing amid urban trash dumps
and we painted mermaids and tranquil lakes
on rusty abandoned pick-up trucks.
We made our way through debris
of neighborhoods of immense defeat
and our efforts were heroic and complete
at discovering or creating secret and redeeming
dignified beauty.
Define the place where you seek to exist
and uncompromisingly insist
that you have arrived
regardless if you currently reside
in Shangri-La or beside a ghetto wall;
the world is waiting for the destiny you demand.
