In the stillness of the night when it rains Haven't you listened to a funny chorus? Cra…. Cra… Cra…. it goes on rough n' raucous A ‘music' coming down to us through the air porous It is frogs who form this nocturnal band They differ widely in shape and mode Some, so queer with belly like balloons And grouped from spotted leopards to ugly toad They neither bite nor cause any fright In dark if you walk by the side of a pond You can hear them jump down with a plop And their feats, to aquatic contests' correspond Equally comfortable on land and lake They prefer to remain under water in day light With bulging eyes and webbed feet These slimy creatures are an interesting sight From behind the floating lily pads Pops up, here and there an angular face If you tickle the water with a stick You can hear them dive down with a hiss These creatures that feed on flies and bugs Are in many ways man's beneficial friend But Alas! They diminish in number year by year How sad, it is from men, they face the greatest affront Children who are lost in fairy tales See in every frog a prince charming Who is cursed to wear a froggy guise Until at last redeemed by a princess disarming! The silence of the night is pleasantly broken With the ‘Cra'….‘Cra' sound of many a frog Sonorous though the music be, it has such a lively rhythm And to this nightly serenade, our ears are ever agog!
