I have a pet, a smart little dachshund Wherever I go, he follows me always Watching him wag his tail is fun Mischievous he is, his antics amaze When I take him out, he runs and rolls Truly a bouncing ball of energy His funny tricks brighten my days Between him and me is a rare synergy With his bark, he scares all rodents away As the stray cat comes in, he is brutally at war With his paws he enjoys prodding the dying rat When he is around, life is never a bore From office, even if I come back late He will be there to greet me, wagging his tail He climbs over, licking me from foot to crown In spontaneity of affection, he does not fail Indeed he is my prized possession In our house, he is allowed to roam free His eyes speak a strange language of love Bringing into our lives so much of glee
