The Wailing Of A Jailbird

Altın Yaprak
Locked miserably in this dingy cell
I am benighted and battered
All I see is darkness
No stars, no moon in my sky
Only meteors of dark thoughts
Screaming past, colliding and emitting sparks!
My mind is a nocturnal street
Where dark memories wander
Like frightening phantoms!
I was born an orphan
Whom a ‘mother' begot
And then conveniently forgot!
With no polestar to guide,
No nest to call my own,
None to claim as kin,
I drifted aimless through life.
Grew up in the street
Like a dog in the driveway
Barking at people
And ended up behind this iron door
That stays firmly bolted
From the world of color and scent,
I am cut off by this barrier.
All my screams, all my shouts
All my cries for help
Stifled behind this iron door
My yesterdays locked,
And my tomorrows blocked
By this iron door
All I see is smog, fog and haze.
Monsters and fiends of thoughts,
Are my companions
Here, no bird sings
What I hear are the rumblings of my stomach.
Hate lives and grows in every breath
I see nightmares even in my wakefulness
Shudder under the whiplash of my conscience
In this dingy cell, all my sanity slips
Peril looming large, I try to gather
The pieces of my fragmented self
Bloodied and badly bruised
I am only a step away from hell
Release me from these shackles
Lift the darkness off my soul
Break open these binding chains
Strip down this iron door
Set free my captive spirit
Let me see another sunrise!
