Miners have an important job,
Which is very dangerous too.
The country needs their expertise,
It is a task "someone" must do.
Conditions of the shabby shafts
Would put anyone at ill ease.
Structural collapse. Explosions.
And then, of course, black lung disease.
So many hours underground,
Remaining hidden from the sun,
Is in no wise a healthy move,
And, certainly, it is no fun.
Too, safety's a concern for some
Who worry till their loved one's home.
