Separation

Who suffers most when parents part? And left to live a life of hurt, The one who needs them most of all The one who weeps alone. For now that child no longer small Who grew too fast still bears the scars, Like restless seas that crash upon The rocks, she never sleeps. She never knew the joy of love Nor felt the warmth of caring arms, Nor heard some words of comfort In a home that didn't care. No fairy tales, no lullabies No goodnights kiss upon her lips, The door stayed closed, the curtains drawn Where darkness hid her pain. Her cries did fall on deafened ears So cold and cruel her mother's breast, She wondered why nobody came But now she knows the truth.
