Of nonsensical verse, un-anoint, A pioneer that lacked not a point. Poems with no punch line On verge of asinine, Yet, king of Limericks all-appoint. ____________________________________________ This limerick is penned as a tribute to Edward Lear. A limerick in form, it may seem to make fun of his style. But he was a true pioneer of the limerick style. The best of limericks are inspired by him and draws from his style. His first and fifth lines never rhymed, but the last word of the first line was repeated as the last word of the fifth. He marvelled with off-colour humour in his limericks, and threw in a nonsensical ‘they' in the limerick often called callous and critical. Another feature of his limericks was: it was devoid of any punch line or point.
