I Don't Have A Dog

I've been fighting the blues all my life; I don't have a dog and I don't have a wife. And my future ain't looking too bright. I don't have a dollar or dime; all I've got is a song and it don't even rhyme. And the clock keeps on stealing my time. Every morning the sun starts to rise; but all it can tell me are puzzles and lies. ‘Cause I ain't got a chance at the prize. I think I'll just lay down and die. No one will miss me and no one will cry; and I guess I will never know why. I been fighting the blues all my life; I don't have a dog and I don't have a wife. The loneliness cuts like a knife. But if I had a dog it would bite; and if I had a wife, she'd just want to fight. I suppose everything is alright. I suppose all in all everything is alright.
