Little Doggie

Through the woodland and through the mire
He searches in vain for his missing pet.
Mile after mile, he tramples the fields
But there's no trace of his little dog yet.
Her name is 'Lady', master's special friend,
Always with him, close within sight
But today she must have mistaken the way
In the late afternoon's fading light.
'Pretty Lady' he shouted, with much concern
'If you hear me please answer my call'...
But nothing did he hear, not one bark in return
As darkness descended over all.
Then suddenly, in the beam of his torch,
Doggie lay there, with sorrowful eyes,
Panting and panting ~ her master said nought
But he fell on his knees and he cried.
Pretty Lady had been so cruelly savaged
By whom? How shall we ever know?
But a vet will arrive as daylight breaks through
And Lady will be safely back home.
