A Cuckoo's Songs

There lived a cuckoo in a distant land,
She used to sing Good Morning songs
To her eager listeners home and beyond,
Only she sang the Good Morning songs!
And for herself, she sang deep at midnight,
In the dark alone, with no companion.
Sometimes she sang throughout the night,
And stopped only when the day was on.
Her voice was sweet, soft and mellifluous,
Her notes carried messages of love,
Among those who were around her to pass
Were the magpies, butterflies and the dove.
They all stopped by to listen to her songs
Songs of love that floated ethereally
Indeed such a song to heaven only belongs
Transcending the land, the shore and the valley.
