Across The Continents

Two birds lived continents apart, Both in the last quarter of their lives. When one flew out from its nest at dawn, The other returned home just the same time, After a day's hard work. They had their own language, But one of the two could speak the other's language too. Though while one slept, the other worked, Yet they used to have some kind of connection. They conversed at leisure through submarine cables. Despite their antipodal locations, they stayed in touch. Suddenly one lost contact with the other, which was Not a very unnatural thing to happen, so it happened.... Then what? ? ?
