The Night Speaks To Me

The night speaks to me, it says 'Lorraine,
Remove the lock from the door;
It's time to escape, time to run free,
This is what darkness is for
All that praying, what good has it done?
You spend too much time on your knees;
You know there's no answer to your prayers,
Enough of the 'Please, dear God, please! '
And the night speaks to me so gently,
It thinks it knows me so well;
It says things just to make me reveal
The secrets I'd rather not tell
But I want to listen to the night,
There's a luscious sweetness in its tone;
It holds me in its careless grasp,
Then releases me when we're alone
The night tells me not to trust the day,
It warns me not to talk to the light;
Light can't keep a secret, you know,
It will undo the work of the night
And I want the night to go on and on,
I'm so comfortable in its embrace;
I'll stay with the night, I'll live in the dark,
The day is just too hard to face
