cognitive dissonance banished
but cliches quickly dug their hooks
no books judged by their covers
holding up recent editions
of the out-of-print
manufacturing friendships
and lasting bonds
called for a relic, just one
the most personal kind
but none too offensive
adult show and tell
so each could see, hear,
and touch the others
in turn i asked
what all would rather see
an old x-ray or a cast
