Not Just A Man

I watched you on the bandstand As you sang and played the bass Observing your muscular body Your rugged and handsome face. When I found out you were single I gave you my business card And dreamed of those well-worn fingers As they strummed across the cords. What would it be like, I asked myself If they ever touched my skin? But as the weeks rolled by and I waited My chances seemed less than slim. And then one night you sat with me Later we talked on the phone Now that I knew you were interested I invited you to my home. You were not just a man but a father Who was able to love and to care I felt something growing inside me That I hoped some day I could share. The first time we lay together In the shadows of a candle light You were not just a man but an artist Who made everything special and right. You made me feel like a woman Who was beautiful and sensuous too I hope you see why, my darling, That I’m falling in love with you. The other night as I touched you And I listened to you sleep I felt something aching inside me That was warm, and peaceful and sweet. Let’s not worry about tomorrow Just enjoy all the time that we spend Together as our lives, like our bodies Will slowly and carefully blend. Written in 1989
