Time is harder than a stone
That sits in the belly, stopping food;
Time the implacable, grinding boulder
Wiping out worlds, both bad and good-
While we in its fading tracks have stood.
Time that's longer than reach of starlight,
Older than the farthest-burning stars;
And Man, a sparking trace of appeasement-
Until the whirl of time is done.
