I Came Barefooted

I came to this country barefooted My feet were sore and all sooted, I didn't arrive by air or by the sea My feet and my hopes, and prayers brought me. I walked upon the dirt and the rocks Which was shared and used by animal flocks, I withstood the torture and all the pain I didn't have the luxury of traveling by Ocean Liner, or plane. Strangers I saw and them I did meet We all had torn and beaten and calloused bare feet, Sadly children stood tired and hungry at the side With parents weeping for the children, who had died. My shoes that I wore were all red They were my feet and the blood that I had bled, People with expensive shoes were allowed in Barefooted, poor people they believed only commits sin. I have walked barefooted with the poor and the needy We weren't the criminals, or the greedy, These are the same shoes that I have always wore Even in Jerusalem, when I walked with the needy and the poor.
