Stand

I held your hand, To help you stand, So that you wouldn't fall. And so we went, Through the grass and dirt, Together we took our walk. We took our stroll, On miles on end, And not once did you loose faith, For I was there holding your hand, And keeping your little leg's straight. I was the leader, Your father, your dad, Wherever I'd go you went. You were my child, My baby my son, You showed me what true love meant. For you were me, My twin, myself, When I was but your age. And you did the things, That I once did, How I wish age wasn't a haste. Now the years have gone on by, We both now have matured, And as I look, now I see, My little boy had grown. He stands alone so straight and tall And smiles so proud and free, And now I know he is a man, For he is there, to help me stand. Randy L. McClave
