Sandwood Bay

In the North West Highlands of Scotland Near Cape Wrath in Sutherland Lies the beautiful, haunted Sandwood Bay And its eerie, eldritch strand And here once Picts & Vikings roved And grey wolves howled at night And long ships scythed through the sparkling waves Winds swelled the sailcloth tight From here, in the Highland Clearances Tenants were sent away But the ghosts clung on like limpets To their home in Sandwood Bay Mermaids flit through the waters Where the ships lie wrecked below And the gold from a Spanish galleon Spills out where the seaweeds flow The ghostly shapes of horses Stream like running tides Over the dunes and pebbles Of Sandwood's golden sides And a gnarled, bearded sailor Walks from the hoary past Silent he is and sinister Like the chill from a wintry blast
