Advent Celebrations (3) Advent is a four-week season of reflective preparation for Christ's Birth at Christmas and Christ's expected return in the Second Coming. Each week of Advent focuses on a different theme - week 1: Hope, week 2: Peace, week 3: Joy. Here is a brief description of Week 1: Hope - The first candle of the Advent wreath is lit on Sunday 3 December. It symbolizes Hope and represents the prophets who foretold the coming of the Messiah. Week 2: Peace - The second candle is lit on Sunday 10 December. It symbolizes Peace and the Bethlehem Candle.
