‘I don't want to
Be a mother now'
You said.
‘Why me alone? '
complained you,
‘He who slept with me
Has me forgotten for ever
The moment he left my bed.
Why should I carry
The burden for ten months
And then lifelong?
Why do your laws
Constrict my rights?
Do I have no rights?
It is my body, my life,
My ambitions, after all.
Who are you
To say "No"?
When you speak
About owning up
The responsibility
Of my acts,
Why do you not
Speak of his? '
All this is true.
But, Nature's Laws are
Discriminatory too.
It is easy for me to say,
Motherhood is a boon
Nature (if you believe in God, He)
Has bestowed on you.
It is easy for me to say,
Every boon comes
With a price-tag.
It is easy for me to
preach on the rights of
Your unborn baby.
But doesn't
Your inner self
Remind you
Repeatedly
That I am true, too?
