Of ancient friends
And how they spoke of you?
Have you driven into your past
And stood as a stranger
In front of a house
Where you once embraced a companion
Whose parent perished
In that place?
Time speeds forward with age,
Sometimes removing
And sometimes increasing
Unhappiness and rage.
I have no choice but to accept
Every indignity of my fate,
But I never forget
The love I've felt,
No matter how many back roads
It has journeyed to escape me.
