In nineteen fourteen,
there appeared a great Act.
Defence of the Realm...
Is this Act still intact?
Are some of the powers
still at the helm bringing
calm beyond fear to
a young lover's ear?
'Ninety-four years ago'
is a fine song to sing.
Britain was ruled by a King.
A similar Act soon made
its way, Emergency Powers,
we remember the day,
and prayed at the time
as the second world war
was just in its prime.
