I stay awake
most nights
short of breath,
lost in thought.
The physicians said
it is allergy,
allergy to dust,
to vegetables, fish,
to pollen, maybe water,
milk, tomatoes
and whatnot.
But his medicines
have no effect,
my problem persists.
I now diagnose
I am allergic;
my thoughts
toxic to myself,
my body allergic
to my soul
(if I have one) .
